10K Lbs. of Food Distributed At Foley Sports Complex
Over 10,000 pounds of food, including a variety of vegetables, fruit, protein, dry goods, bakery items and canned goods, was distributed at The Foley Sports Complex on Saturday. Over 200 families benefited from this food distribution, which was sponsored by Calvary Chapel Fellowship in Foley and food was supplied by Feeding the Gulf Coast. “You don’t realize the need in the community until you witness the number of people who come out to a food distribution of this size,” said Cathy Pope, President & CEO of Feeding the Gulf Coast. “I was personally overwhelmed by the sincere gratitude of the people receiving this food.”
Feeding the Gulf Coast, formerly Bay Area Food Bank, serves a 24-county area spanning south Alabama, south Mississippi and the panhandle of Florida. In 2015, the food bank distributed over 20 million pounds of food to more than 400 church pantries, soup kitchens and other nonprofit organizations throughout its service area. The food bank also operates multiple nutrition programs, including Summer Food Service, Afterschool Snack, Backpack, Disaster Relief, Community Garden, Mobile Pantry, Cooking Matters, and SNAP Outreach. Feeding the Gulf Coast is a United Way agency and a member of Feeding America. For more information, visit feedingthegulfcoast.org.
