OB Lions Duck Race Garners $4,900 for Charity

The Orange Beach Lions Club recently held its 5th Annual Rubber Duck Race. With perfect weather for the occasion, every duck available was adopted and launched into the Lazy River at the Oasis at The Wharf by Honorary Duckmaster Lori Brocato, Orange Beach Elementary School Principal, and Alyson Hinson, Lions Club President. In the final race of the event, the winning duck belonged to Laura Ward who was present to cheer on her duck and receive her $500 grand prize. Over $4,900 was raised at this fun, family event. The proceeds raised will benefit various club programs which include providing eye exams and glasses for those in our community with a financial need, and funding for annual scholarships awarded to our local high school seniors.

This event would not be possible without the support of our local business community. The Orange Beach Lions Club would like to recognize and thank the following businesses for their support in sponsorship: Platinum Sponsors being The Mullet Wrapper, Baldwin EMC and Columbia Southern University; Gold Sponsor being Mr. Whitney Echols; Silver Sponsors being The Orange Beach Public Library and McCarron Insurance; and Bronze Sponsors being Computer Backup, Regions Bank, Centennial Bank, Attorney Joshua G. Kesling, Edward Jones/Dec McClelland, Ballard Sweat, and Hazel’s Restaurant. Over 60 other lucky winners walked away with prizes donated by more than 40 local businesses. Many thanks to J&M Tackle, Baldwin EMC, Gulf State Park, Amazing Eyes Optical Boutique, Blalock Seafood, Cobalt Restaurant, Duck’s Diner, The Meat Market at Orange Beach, The Dolphin Athletics Club, Hazel’s, Doc’s Seafood, Bubba’s Seafood, Franco’s, Flora-Bama, Hope’s Cheesecake, Designed By You, Gulf State Park, Sunset Sailing with Captain Ryan, The Hot Shop at the Orange Beach Art Center, Infinity Bicycles, The Beach Barber, the Dancing Cup Café, The Keg Lounge, Mikee’s/Steamer/Shrimp Basket, Lowe’s, Rite Aid, Hancock Bank, Yaya’s Country Café, Jewel’s Beach Salon, McElroy Salon, Happy Harbor Coffee, Shipp’s Harbour Grill, Tacky Jacks, Verizon Wireless, Flipper’s, Bama Dollar, Swift Supply, and Wildflowers Boutique for their generous prize donations.
