A Message from the State Snowbird Club Presidents

A Message from the State Snowbird Club Presidents

There are around 15-18,000 snowbirds from northern states who enjoy their winters on the Florida-Alabama Gulf Coast from early winter until late spring. There are 12 of these snowbird states that have been organized to provide a social outlet and to facilitate a relationship with our winter communities: The North and South Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. All have regularly scheduled functions that are detailed in the following pages of the Mullet Wrapper, which are enjoyed by approximately 2500 of these snowbirds and friends. Fund raising projects are a big part of their schedule, such as the Brat Fest, Trivia Nite, Low Country Boil, Gulf and Bowling, where volunteer snowbirds from all the states work together and help generate thousands of dollars each year that is returned back to the local communities. Other states and Canada have representation at the Gulf during the winter, and some find themselves enjoying social functions with these organized state clubs as well. The Presidents representing these state clubs collectively encourage the large number of non-participating “snowbirds” and “Pelicans” (snowbirds who have relocated permanently to the Gulf Coast) to check out their respective state clubs. All are welcomed and encouraged to check out what is going on with these snowbird functions, regardless of state affiliations. Thank you, and we all look forward to meeting you.
