Boating safety offered Oct. 22 at Legendary Marine

The Perdido Bay Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, is offering the premier boating safety education class, America’s Boating Course on Saturday, October 22 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Legendary Marine, located at 3977 Hwy 59 South in Gulf Shores. The cost is $50 for student materials and lunch. Instruction is provided at no cost by certified instructors from the Perdido Bay Power Squadron.
The course addresses required and recommended safety equipment, boating rules of the road, safety measures, navigation chart overview, and boat handling among others.
Student materials include a 279-page student manual, graduation certificate, and copies of federal and state rules. Two persons in the same household may share a single book. For those sharing a book there is a small charge for the additional lunch. Classes are limited to 18 students. Minimum age is 12, and those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Successful completion of the course meets educational requirements in the state of Alabama, as well as several other states, for obtaining boat operator licenses. The Alabama Boating License examination is administered at the end of the class. Purchasing and reviewing the student manual prior to the class is recommended. Register and buy student materials at the Legendary Marine, Coleman Outlet, or Bluewater Ship’s Store. Walk-ins are welcome if space is available.
