Former O.B. civic leader Kurt Carranza passes
Former Orange Beach resident and civic leader Kurt Carranza passed away on Sunday, April 23, at age 56. He will be deeply missed as he was so loved by many.
Kurt was a member and past president of the Orange Beach Lions Club. He was a former member of the Mystics of Pleasure. He was a supporter of Relay for Life and other charitable organizations.
Kurt was a graduate of Homewood High School and attended UAB. He was a registered pharmacy technician and worked as food and beverage manager for both Holiday Inn Hotels and the Clarion Hotel in Mobile. He was a former disc jockey, under the alias of “Casey Thomas” in Birmingham in the 70’s.
He was a big fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and Alabama football. He loved classic films, especially those starring Humphrey Bogart. He enjoyed playing pool and video golf. Kurt was always the jokester and entertained his friends and family with numerous magic tricks.
Kurt is survived by his mother, Leasi Crookshank; his sister, Ramona Carranza Cunningham (James Emory); two nephews, James Cunningham and David Cunningham; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
