Georgia Author of Year book signing is June 1
Two time Georgia author Man Martin (pictured) will visit Southwest Branch Library to promote his book, ‘Lemon Jell-O Syndrome,’ on Thursday, June 1 at 6 p.m. The sponsoring Friends of the Southwest Branch Library will provide light snacks & refreshments.
The Lemon Jell-O Syndrome is about Bone King, a man who makes a terrible new discovery. He cannot walk through doors. In fact, the only way he can navigate a doorway is to square dance through it.
Perhaps this strange affliction has something to do with his thinking about etymology and grammar all the time, or anxiety that his wife Mary is having an affair.
Finally, Bone seeks advice from a neurologist, who offers a diagnosis as peculiar as the ailment: Bone’s self is starting to dislodge from his brain. Bone must compliment a stranger each day, do good deeds without being asked, and remind himself each morning, that “Today is a good day!”
Bone’s condition begins to improve, but then his wife leaves him, and after a harrowing ordeal during which he nearly loses his life, he wonders if Limongello’s remedy is the product of a deranged imagination or the cure for a modern epidemic threatening the very self.
Martin’s previous works include ‘Days of the Endless Corvette,’ ‘Paradise Dogs’ and the comic strip ‘Sibling Revelry.’
Booklist calls Lemon Jell-O Syndrome “a singular joy!”
