Greer’s Cash Saver Market Grand Re-Opening

Greer’s Cash Saver Market Grand Re-Opening
The Optimist Club of Perdido Bay (OCPB) and members of the Pensacola and Lillian, communities came out on a windy, rain-threatened day to show their support for Greer’s Cash Saver Market on U.S. Highway 98 and Bauer Road as they celebrated the store’s grand re-opening. Included in the celebrating crowd were members of the Escambia High School football team and ROTC and representatives from both the Pensacola and Perdido Key Chambers of Commerce. OCPB President Ken Sanders presented the Greer family with a certificate of appreciation for their support of the Optimist Club’s projects. The 100-year-old family business has taken over the entire shopping center on Lillian Highway, opening a separate liquor store, expanding the grocery area and adding a deli with a salad bar and booths to sit and enjoy the food. The business is still run by fourth and fifth generation family members. Currently 32 supermarkets are operated in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida with three Greer’s Ace Hardware Express locations in Mobile and Bay Minette and Quitman, MS. The first store opened in 1916 at the corner of Water and St. Michael Streets in Mobile.
“Every item is priced at our cost to get the product from the source to the shelf. Then we add just 10% at the checkout,” say fourth generation owners Robert and Jackie Greer. Jon Spurlock is the Lillian Highway Store Director.
In addition to the support of OCPB and other local organizations, Greer’s also offers “Apples for Students” and Best Choice “Save-A-Label” programs to help raise funds for schools; sponsors the Goodwill Easter Seal Golf Tournament, MDA Shamrock fundraiser, and the Mobile area “Scouting for Food” program for food for the needy; is involved in the Dollar General Football Bowl and supports the South Alabama Jaguars Baseball Team.
