The Gulf Shores Swim Team finished in 2nd place at the recent Pensacola Harvest Classic Swim Meet held at the David L. Bodenhamer Center in Gulf Shores. The Dolphins took 27 swimmers to the 7 team meet. Southern Water Aquatics and TNT were the first and third place teams, respectively. Pensacola Navy Youth was the host team for this annual fall event.
Three team records were broken during the meet. Jack Biggs, age 8, set new marks in the 50 yard Backstroke and the 100 yard Freestyle for his age group. Serah Smith, age 8, broke a record in the 50 yard Breaststroke that had been on the record board for 9 years.
Five Gulf Shores swimmers won high point recognition in their age groups. Serah Smith and Jack Biggs were the High Point winners in the 8 and Under age groups. Kimberly Lee won the Girls open division. Murray Reed, age 9, and Macy Manni, age 13, were High Point runner ups in their age groups.
Some of the highlights for the Gulf Shores Dolphins include the following. The team won 25 of the 118 events for individuals. The team also captured 3 of the 10 relay races during the weekend.
Head Coach Brook Hopkins made special mention of the performances of Liam Bickham and Thomas Schultz. Both young men competed in the 11-12 year old age group. Coach Hopkins said, “Thomas and Liam are relatively new to the sport, but they are exceeding my performance expectations at meets and in the daily practices. I love their ‘can do’ attitudes.”
The fall schedule for the Gulf Shores Dolphins Swim Team includes the War Eagle Invitational on October 13th and the Gravy Bowl Invitational on November 17th. December will find the Dolphins at home in the Holiday Invitational hosted by PNY.
