June 25-29 GCAA Fine Arts Camp offers versatile classes & performances
This year’s Kaleidoscope Summer Fine Arts Camp students will be able to choose from eight different classes: Pottery, Painting, Mixed Media, Pastels, Drama/Musical Theater, Dance, Music and Storytelling/Spoken Word. When registering, students will rate their top four class selections, and those signing up in advance will be registered according to their selections.
Sponsored through a partnership between the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance and the First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores, the camp is held at the church during the week of June 25-29 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.All classes are taught by professional teachers and performers.
The visual art class instructors are: Jamie Adams (Pottery); Kevin Cobb (Painting); Cindy Langston (Mixed Media); Tommy Vogel (Pastels). Teaching the performing arts classes are: Pam Winstead, Karan Fox (Drama/Musical Theater), Jamie Parks (Dance) and Elizabeth Vander Kamp (Storytelling/Spoken Word).
Hands-on classes will take place during the morning hours, with breaks for snack and lunch.Snack is provided; campers bring their lunches. Ending each afternoon is a professional, liveperformance. This year’s line up includes Cellist Della Grigsby, the University of Alabama’s SummerTide Theater cast from “Pump Boys & Dinettes’’, pianist Kayla Dowling and storyteller Elizabeth Vander Kamp. The camp is designed to not only showcase the talents of performing and exhibiting artists, but also to share the journeys which led to their careers in the fine arts arena. “Question and Answer” time follows each performance, and students have the opportunity to mix and mingle with all performers. A Gala will take place on the last night of the camp, revealing the week’s artistic activities with both performances and a visual art display.
