Local talent shines at GSHS 16th Annual Night of the Arts

The Gulf Shores High School PTSO held its 16th Annual Night of the Arts on April 21 at GSUMC. Art students submitted over 90 pieces of art in five categories. The artwork was judged on April 20 and was on display in the lobby of the church’s auditorium. Refreshments were provided for guests to enjoy before the talent show.
Winners in the Pencil, Marker, Charcoal, & Pastels category were: 1st Place, Addison Bullar; 2nd Place, Grant Lee; 3rd Place, Dior Brown; Honorable Mention, Ben Malone, Alix Crawford and Brock Graham. The Digital Art category winners were: 1st Place, Jeremy Koonce; 2nd Place, Jeremy Koonce; 3rd Place, Bryce Fuhrmann.
Winners in the Mixed Media category were: 1st Place, Holly McCurdy; 2nd Place, Camille Hogue; 3rd Place, Ben Malone; Honorable Mention, Emily Schindler.
The Painting category winners were: 1st Place, Camille Hogue; 2nd Place, Trinity
Raine; 3rd Place, Jacquelyn Lowe; Honorable Mention, Trevan Fitts & Jeremy Koonce.
Winners in the Photography category were: 1st Place, Conrad Reetz; 2nd Place, Morgan Lollar; 3rd place, Lauren Baisch; Honorable Mention, Conrad Reetz, Jaylee Dempsey & Luna Ledlow.
First place winners each received a check for $50 and a blue ribbon. Red ribbons were awarded to the second place winners, along with a $25 check. Third place winners and Honorable Mention were also awarded ribbons.
Eight students/groups competed in the talent show. The contestants were Caroline Grimes, Gerardo Moret, Chloe Myers, Cora Hale, MacKenzie Maddox, Ali Livingston, Andrew Flowe, and the Leather Cupcakes, a band comprised of Nick Mustin, Luke Skelton and Mitch Buckelew.
Andrew Flowe was selected as the winner of the talent show. He recited an original poem entitled “Body” and was awarded a check for $100, along with a certificate. Caroline Grimes was the second place winner. She sang “Mercy” by Duffy. She was awarded a check for $50, along with a certificate. Ali Livingston was the third place winner. She sang the Post Modern Jukebox arrangement of “Dream On” by Aerosmith. She was awarded a check for $25 and a certificate. Chloe Myers was selected to receive Honorable Mention. She sang “Blown Away” by Carrie Underwood and was awarded a certificate.
Congratulations to the students who received awards. The GSHS PTSO would like to thank all of the students who submitted artwork or participated in the talent show. The PTSO would also like to thank the many people and businesses, as well as GSUMC, who helped make the show possible.
