Locals can participate in Oct. 21 underwater conservation effort

On Saturday, October 21 at 8 a.m., volunteer scuba divers are invited to Dive Against Debris, that is, canvas the near shore waters of the Gulf of Mexico in an effort to remove garbage and unnatural debris which can pose a significant threat to people and wildlife. Visit gulfshoresal.gov to register to either dive or volunteer on the beach.
This underwater conservation effort is the result of a unique collaboration between the City of Gulf Shores, Coastal Alabama Reef and Restoration Foundation and Project AWARE, a growing movement of scuba divers protecting the ocean – one dive at a time. Focusing on marine debris, scuba divers can directly and positively affect real, long-term change in our community.
