Oct. 5-6 O.B. Tennis Center socials benefit Parker family

The Orange Tennis Center community is sponsoring two days of tennis socials to raise money for the family of the center’s manager, Melissa Parker. Near the end of summer, Melissa’s husband Mike had a stroke at the age of 56, meaning their lives were forever changed.
On Wednesday, October 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m., tennis players are invited to play tennis and bring a snack or covered dish to share at a potluck following play. A second tennis social is scheduled on Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m., with a light lunch provided afterwards.
“We are hosting this event not only to help relieve some of their financial stress, but also to raise their spirits and show them what a strong community they have supporting and praying for them,’’ said OBTC Director Rhett Russell.
“Recovery from a stroke is fairly uncertain. All stroke patients heal differently. Mike is making great progress and has high spirits. The reality of it all is overwhelming to think about, but we are hoping for the best. Mike so far has exceeded the expectations the doctors and nurses have had for him and hopefully will continue on an uphill climb. Bills are beginning to pile up and insurance does not cover everything. We wish to be able to help relieve some financial stress off Melissa’s shoulders so she can focus on Mike’s recovery.’’
A Go-Fund-Me page has also been set up for the Parker family: gofundme.com/mikeparker. The Orange Beach Tennis Center is located at 4851 S. Wilson Blvd. For more info, call 251-974-6387.
