Off-Bottom Culture Of Oysters forum slated Feb. 19 in Fairhope

The Local Food Production Initiative presents the Off-Bottom Culture Of Oysters Forum our on Tuesday, February 19 at the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship, located at 1150 Fairhope Ave. in Fairhope. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with presentations beginning at 7 p.m.
At least ten oyster farms now dot the Alabama shoreline of Mobile Bay and Mississippi Sound. How did they come to be?
Dr. Bill Walton, Director of the Auburn University Shellfish lab at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, will speak. His research on oysters has led to a new off-bottom oyster production industry. Dr. Chuck Wilson, former Director of the LSU Sea Grant program and owner of Navy Cove Oysters, LLC of Fort Morgan, will also speak. Theirs is a success story of research transformed into commercial reality.
A $5 donation at the door is suggested. More info: fairhopelocalfood.org or Local Food Production Initiative on Facebook. You may also contact Mike Healy (healymj14@gmail.com) at 251-504-1173 or Marilyn Mannhard (marilynmannhard@gmail.com) at 251-978-9442 for info.
