Three new Orange Beach police officers were sworn in by Municipal Judge Buddy Brackin during the Orange Beach City Council meeting on Dec. 5. Police Chief Joe Fierro introduced John “JP” Burnside, Michael McBrayer and Alex Monce to the council prior to each new officer being sworn in by Judge Brackin.
Fierro said Burnside attended Faith Academy in Mobile, received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Troy in 2017 and he comes to us from the Mobile Airport Authority, where he is an APOSTC [Alabama Peace Officers Standards & Training Commission] certified officer. “So he’s bringing a little bit of experience – a certified officer and a good addition,” Fierro added.
McBrayer came to Orange Beach from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. “He attended their training academy,” Fierro said.“He is an APOSTC-certified officer. He has several years experience from there and he joined us on Nov. 18. He has moved here with his wife and son and he’s wanted to come to the community for many years – he made that real clear in the interview. He visited here and now he is part of the team here. And we welcome him on board.”
Monce is a 7-year veteran of the United States Navy, where he was a K-9 handler. “He’s a master-at-arms, which to most of us means police officer, for the Navy and then he handled his working dog … for the Navy for 7 years. He provided a lot of security for top-ranking officials, served in foreign countries and base protection while overseas and here in the states. He has 350 hours of U.S. Army veterinarian training and he is an active shooter instructor. And we’re thrilled to have (him) here.”
Mayor Tony Kennon welcomed the three new officers. “We’re glad you’re all here,” he said.
