Uniform Swap Event Feb. 3 at First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores

On Saturday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m, Uniforms for Youth will hold a Uniform Swap Event at the First Presbyterian Church in Gulf Shores. Those in need of a uniform may come by and select from tops and bottoms of all sizes. Some are new, but most are pre-owned uniforms in great condition. If you have outgrown uniforms you wish to donate, those are welcome but not required to receive a uniform.
Those who do have uniforms to donate are encouraged to bring them by the church. Remember that uniforms are needed in many sizes, and consist of casual clothing that many people have in their closets. Khaki or navy blue slacks or skirts and white, navy or light blue shirts (with collars) and sweaters are acceptable. Winter coats of any description are permitted during this cold season. Please take a moment to rummage through your closet and drop off a donation. Financial contributions are also welcome.
Uniforms for Youth was created by Emilie Rattner, a Gulf Shores Middle School student who wants to be sure that all students have enough uniforms to wear to school. She and her mom, Dominique, launched the program last summer and clothed over 150 children in Baldwin County at the beginning of the school semester. In addition, this young graddroots effort provided nearly 300 articles of uniform clothing to the Aldine School District in Houston, Texas, to help those who had lost so much due to Hurricane Harvey, this past fall.
Feel free to stop by on the 3rd and learn more about this program. The church is located at 309 E. 21st Ave. For more info., call 251-597-2074 or visit uniformsforyouth.org.
