A 60th Anniversary Celebration will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. In addition to historical remarks, this special event will be celebrated with music from The Gulf Coast Youth Chorale, the First Pres. Praise Team Band, a duet of “Amazing Grace” (arr. McDonald) by pianist Kayla Dowling and organist Barbara White, and a Community Choir, who will sing anthems to highlight the Thanksgiving season. All are welcome and a reception will immediately follow. Pictured: The original church building as it appeared in the late 1950’s. Since that time, the church has built a sanctuary and three additional wings. First Presbyterian now serves a thriving congregation with both contemporary and traditional services. Among its many programs, the church is home to Afternoon Arts, an after school fine arts program for youth, as well as Homework Haven, which serves Gulf Shores Middle School students. Other programs which take place at the church include yoga classes, Sangha on Sunday afternoons and monthly mindfulness vegan dinners.
