Alabama 6th easiest to earn middle class status

New research from The Pew Research Center found about half of U.S. adults live in a middle income household, which it defines as two-thirds to double the median household income in each state.
Those findings reveal differences ranging from $53,000 in Mississippi to $100,000 in Maryland and New Jersey.
The five states with the lowest (at least $50,000) qualifying household income to be considered middle class are Mississippi, West Virginia, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico.
Alabama was ranked sixth lowest, with a median household income of $59,609. The lowest end of middle class income in Alabama was $39,739, and the highest was $119,218.
Maryland, with a median household income of $98,461, topped the list, followed by New Jersey, Massachusetts, Hawaii and California.
