Andrew Meza awarded $5,000 LLPS scholarship

Andrew Meza, a 2021 Gulf Shores High School grad, is the recipient of this year’s Little Lagoon Preservation Society Barney and Maxine Gass Scholarship. The $5,000 award is spread over four years. Andrew participated in the oyster gardening project on Little Lagoon with GSHS classes and he recently completed the first ever GSHS Capstone Steam Project by documenting habitat in addition to oysters that thrive in the gardens. He is a National Honor Society member, a GSHS band member, and on the varsity soccer team. His nomination stated, “Andrew is a very nice guy, extremely polite, very hard working, extremely bright and loaded with potential,’’ He will attend Auburn this fall and intends to pursue a degree in Fisheries. The scholarship fund is the result of a very caring and generous donation by Barney and Maxine Gass. Recipients are evaluated and selected by a team of teachers with additional input from LLPS Board member, Dr. Ron Phelps.
