Baldwin Co. & Gulf Shores to share cost of $11.1 million County Rd. 6 enhancements

Baldwin County and the City of Gulf Shores will work together to make major intersection improvements on County Road 6 at Hwy. 59. The County Road 6. It will be the first project of the Baldwin County Commission’s 30 Cubed Program which is aimed at fostering collaboration with municipalities across the county to enhance the capacity and connectivity of the county’s roadway system.
“The project that will benefit everyone who lives, works, or visits this area,” said Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft. “When the 30 Cubed Program was announced, we already had these intersection improvements designed and ready to go. It was the perfect fit. This kind of collaboration is exactly what we need to keep both our community and the county moving forward together.”
The total estimated cost of the project is $11.1 million with the City of Gulf Shores funding $5.55 million and the County funding the remaining $5.55 million. Eligible project costs include right-of-way acquisition, design, utility relocations, permitting, construction and construction engineering and inspection.
Officials from both the county and the city agree that, as Baldwin County continues to grow, initiatives like the 30 Cubed Program are vital to ensuring a resilient, well-connected, and efficient transportation network.
