Baldwin Memorial Day Flag Relay honors fallen heros

For the past nine years, runners have escorted flags in Baldwin County on Memorial Day as part of a flag relay to honor its fallen heroes. And this year will be no exception, said organizer Elizabeth York.
“This is a day to reflect on the fact that we will never forget,’’ York said.
Two groups of runners with police escorts will start simultaneously in Daphne and Foley and move South, handing off the flags every three miles to the next group of runners. The Daphne group will end in Foley. The Foley group will end in Orange Beach. The relay will total about 47 miles.
Additionally, signs will be placed along the route to honor fallen servicemembers. The signs will contain a picture, name and date deceased of the hero. Following the run, the signs will be collected and redistributed accordingly.
