Battle of Fort Blakeley Reenactment April 5 in Spanish Fort
The reenactment of the Battle of Fort Blakeley is scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at Historic Blakeley State Park (34745 AL-225) in Spanish Fort. The largest event of its type in our area, this historical commemoration will feature hundreds of skilled reenactors authentically reenacting the largest charge to take place in Alabama during the Civil War. Throughout the day prior to the battle there will be demonstrations of artillery firing. A sword used in the battle by Cpt. John Lewis Kinney of the 50th USCT will be on display as well.
In addition to discussing the battles of Fort Blakeley and Spanish Fort, guests will learn about the numerous Confederate and Union warships which vied for control of area waterways during the Civil War’s last major campaign. The Spanish Fort Masonic Lodge will be on hand throughout the day with delicious hamburgers and hotdogs, and the park will have a variety of souvenirs for sale.
