Bridge to a better brain and a great time: Gulf Shores Bridge Club meets twice weekly; new members are welcome

By Barb Abeling & Colleen Plotz

Looking to sharpen your mind, make new friends, and have some fun?
The Gulf Shores Duplicate Bridge Club invites you to join a vibrant community that gathers twice a week at one of the most welcoming venues in town, the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church on Fort Morgan Road.
This eclectic group of bridge lovers meets every Monday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. (players are asked to arrive by 11:30 with a partner—but if you need one, just call a couple of days in advance and they’ll gladly find you a match).
More than just a card game, bridge is a brain-boosting activity shown to improve memory, problem-solving, and concentration—skills that keep minds sharp at any age. Research even suggests that games like bridge may help delay cognitive decline by building what scientists call “cognitive reserve.” But it’s not just about mental gymnastics. The club offers a social lifeline in a friendly, low-pressure atmosphere. Members range from teachers to nurses, chemists, a war hero, and even a spy – proving that no matter your background, there’s a seat at the table for you.
The club provides free drinks (soda and water), spirited but friendly competition, and the chance to master a skill that connects you to people around the world. Bridge is played in every major city and countless communities across the globe. Once you learn, you’ll never be far from a game. Whether you’re retired, just starting your career, or somewhere in between, bridge has something for everyone.
Come for the fun, stay for the friendships, and leave with a sharper mind. Bring a partner or let us find one for you. Call ahead (251-228-1587 or 520-449-7083) and be part of something smart, social, and seriously enjoyable.
