Candidates step up for Aug. 26 Pleasure Island elections
Although candidates had until June 24 to toss their hats into the ring and the ballot will not be official until all candidates are validated by the Alabama State Ethics Commission by June 30, the most inportant date to remember for those who have an interest in the political future of Pleasure Island is Aug. 11, the last day citizens of the cities can register to vote in the Aug. 26 Gulf Shores and Orange Beach municipal elections.
As of June 23, voters in Gulf Shores had a choice between incumbent Robert Craft, Ray Moore, Jr. and Angie Swiger to be their next mayor. Council member Phillip Harris is unopposed while Austin Boyd, Lucas Burger and Joe Garris (incumbent) are vying for place 1, Jennifer Guthrie and Gary Sinak (incumbent) are in the place 2 race, and Jason Dyken (incumbent) and Joseph Marinaccio square off in place 4. Blair Castro has challenged incumbent Steve Jones for the place 5 seat.
In Orange Beach, Mayor Tony Kennon and O.B. city council members Jeff Boyd and Jeff Silvers were running unopposed as of June 23. Incumbent Annette Mitchell will face Jack Robertson for place 1, and Jay Neese will face incumbent Jerry Johnson for place 3. Robert Stuart II was the only candidate vying for place 5, but incumbent Joni Blalock and others still had time to enter the race before the MW deadline.
