Charlie Hussey is Sept. 8 GCAC guest speaker

The Gulf Coast Athletic Club will welcome speaker Southeastern Conference Deputy Commissioner Charlie Hussey to its Sept. 8 meeting at Craft Farms Clubhouse. Annual membership in the club is $300, and the guest fee is $50. More info: gcathleticclub.com or email info@GCathleticclub.com.
The club meets every other week in the fall. Socializing starts at 6 p.m. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m., and the 7 p.m. program includes team reports, the infamous crying towel, scholar-athlete presentations and the keynote speaker.
Other speakers already booked include Antonio Langham on Nov. 4 and a Senior Bowl representative on Jan. 26. The 21st Annual GCAC Golf Tournament, the club’s main fundraiser, is Friday, Oct. 24.
Hussey was hired to fill a new role as Deputy Commissioner of the SEC in September of 2019. He formerly served the conference as associate commissioner for network relations and chief operating officer. Hussey was named the conference’s CFO in February 2017 to direct and manage day-to-day operations of the SEC Conference Headquarters.
Hussey, an Ole Miss grad, had served as associate commissioner for network relations since 2013 and was the Conference’s primary liaison with ESPN and the SEC Network for all television and sponsorship matters. Hussey has served in other capacities with the SEC since 2000.
