Coastal Ballet students part of workshop with legend

Madame Rio Cordy, the artistic and executive director at Coastal Ballet Academy and many of her students participated in a young dancers workshop program with Suzanne Farrell, a professor in the dance department at Florida State University in Tallahassee, in advance of the company’s performance of The Firebird May 20-21 at The Orange Beach Performing Arts Center at 23908 Canal Rd. (More info: coastalballet.com). By the time she retired after 28 years on stage, Ms. Farrell had achieved a career that is without precedent or parallel in the history of ballet. Her numerous performances with Balanchine’s company (more than two thousand), her world tours, and her appearances in television and movies have made her one of the most recognizable and highly esteemed artists of her generation.
“Coastal Ballet strives for beautifully polished students through these many great experiences and opportunities,’’ said Madame Cordy.
A South Baldwin County instituion for more than 30 years, Coastal Ballet Company’s mission is to transform people’s lives through the power of art. Led by Cordy, its staff strives to teach the art of ballet in a loving manner with a syllabus designed to enhance the physical, emotional, and mental development of each child. At the end of the dance season, the hope is that students will be richer in body, mind, and spirit and take with them a deeper love of dance, music, learning, and a heart full of joyful memories.
