Fairhope installs handicapped accessible beach mat near pier

The City of Fairhope has added a new handicapped-accessible beach mat to the area north of the Fairhope Pier at the city’s public beach. The 150-foot, ADA-compliant access mat was donated to the City by the Fairhope Sunset Rotary Club. The water pervious mat provides a safe, enhanced grip and reduces risk of injury to bare feet for all beach-goers.
The City of Gulf Shores installed access mats at the west and east ends of the Gulf Place Public Beach parking area in 2018. The mats stop short of the water, and the Gulf Shores Beach Safety Office, located at Gulf Place, has beach wheelchairs for the public to use on a first-come-first-served basis.
