Foley Couple Celebrates 70 Years Together

By Kathy Olewiler
You might wonder how this cute couple met and have enjoyed their 70 years together. Here is their story.
On a sunny hot day in August 1947, 15-year-old Jean Gray went home with her best friend Betty June after church. They were in the front porch swing that afternoon when Mickey Holloran drove up in a1940 Model ford. He had just gotten out of the Marine Corp and had spent his “muster out” pay on the car.
Mickey had a date with Betty June to go to Inland Lake for the afternoon. She insisted that Jean come along! Big Mistake on Betty June’s part. Mickey married Jean in June of 1949!
After 70 years together, you can still catch Mickey and Jean enjoying a front porch swing!
Not a surprise for this couple who enjoyed many adventurous sports over the years with their family including skydiving, gliders, boating, scuba diving, motor cycles & hiking the Appalachian Trail! As a charter pilot and instructor, Mickey even taught all his kids how to fly!
Mickey & Jean Holloran, have lived at the Grove for the past 18 years, moving here from Birmingham. On June 4th they celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary, with Grove friends and family. To celebrate the occasion their Grove friends gave them an airplane ride over the beach area they love along with a few other special surprises.
When asked what the secret is to being married for 70 years Jean replied, “You have to give each other a little space sometimes.”
“She said when I first met her just do what she tells me and everything will be fine,” Mickey replied.
And 70 years later everything is fine.
