Foley Police secure conviction for fake gold schemers

A Foley police investigation started by the Foley Police in 2023 helped lead to the federal sentencing of two men in connection with a conspiracy to sell fake gold and silver in three states. Rossi Windham, 42, and Dylan Jemison, 21, both of Sylacauga, and a minor, who was not identified because of his age, sold the fake gold and silver to victims who paid more than $120,000 for the counterfeit items, according to a report from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama.
A victim contacted the department after buying some of the material, Foley police said. The victim told police that Jemison had sold him the fake gold for $20,000. Jemison then contacted him again offering to sell more items. Police immediately worked with the victim to set up a sting operation. A department spokesman said. Jemison agreed to meet the victim locally, but instead met with the Foley Police and had a backpack full of fake gold bars in his possession. In total, police recovered nearly 100 fake gold bars from the victim and Jemison. The Foley Police Intelligence Unit established a connection between the two suspects and a possible conspiracy. Conspiracies involving minted gold are federal offenses. Foley police immediately contacted the FBI.
