Fort Morgan Mardi Gras Parade rolls on Feb. 15

The Fort Morgan Mardi Gras Society will present its 7th annual parade in honor of late founder Gayle Pierce on Sunday, Feb. 15 beginning at 1 p.m. The parade starts at the intersection of Tripletail Lane and Ponce DeLeon Court. It will trace 1.9 miles west along the Gulf of Mexico before turning north at the intersection of South Bernard Court and ending at Ft. Morgan Road. (Alabama 180). Ft. Morgan bistro Tacky Jacks will host a post parade party featuring entertainment from Les Linton beginning at 2 p.m. Sassy Bass will also host a post parade party.
Thanks to Gayle and the friends she recruited, the parade rolled for the first time on the unincorporated Fort Morgan in 2019, and from the beginning it has been all inclusive. Unlike any traditional Mardi Gras parade, you’ll see a whimsical mix of golf carts, cars, jeeps, and even decorated trailers making their way down the coast in a festive celebration.
A true pirate at heart, Gayle passed away last year on her 70th birthday, March 23, 2024.
“Many people will be dressing up as pirates. She loved pirates,’’ said Linda Kay. “I have been assisting Gayle with the organization of our parade since our first one in 2019, and I am honored to take over her role as parade organizer.’’
Expect to encounter scallywags, buccaneers, and pirates running amuck in her memory during the parade.
Kay added that Gayle’s caring spirit and generous heart could be felt by anyone she met, and she had a special gift of bringing out the best in people. Gayle fought a battle with cancer for four years with courage, bravery, dignity, and grace. More info: fortmorganmardigras.com or facebook.
