Free screening of Rabren’s FBISF documentary Oct. 23 at GSP

The public is invited to a free special screening of “Stories in Rhyme – The Songwriters of the Flora-Bama Lounge” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 23 at the Gulf State Park Conservation Hall. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
The Conservation Hall is located behind the Gulf State Park headquarters on State Hwy. 135 in Gulf Shores, down the street from Walmart.
The documentary is about the little known as well as the legendary singer/songwriters who have made the Frank Brown International Songwriters’ Festival the longest running songwriters festival in the country.
The documentary explores the characters, the songs, the art form, their inspiration and the camaraderie of the colorful storytellers behind the music played in the honky-tonk from four generations of songwriters inspired by the Festival. From historic footage, the documentary includes late-greats like Hank Cochran, Mickey Newbury, Larry Butler and other talented songwriters perform, tell stories and pay homage to the man who befriended and nurtured them for the past 34 years, Joe Gilchrist, the founder.
The documentary is produced by Lynn Rabren and Company. Gilchrist is the executive producer.
Rabren, a Fairhope resident, Alabama native and Auburn grad, has traveled the world throughout his 40 year career as a cameraman, producer, and director, working for lauded clients such as 60 Minutes, PBS, and Neil Young. His videography accolades include two Emmys.
His most recent projects have included an award-winning documentary feature, America’s Amazon, which aired on PBS, as well as A Redfish Tale, Fishslap, and A Gulf in Understanding: Dan Rather Reports. The FBISF project has allowed Lynn to explore another one of his loves – music.
