GSES 4th Graders “Give Back’’ For Meals On Wheels
Gulf Shores Elementary 4th grade wanted to participate in the Gulf Shores Give Back Project. They wanted to help senior citizens so they chose to help Meals on Wheels (MOW). Easter was their theme. They prepared Easter baskets for the MOW recipients and cards for the volunteers who prepare and deliver the meals. MOW in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are administered by the Christian Service Center, who picked up and delivered the baskets for the 4th graders.
Meals on Wheels is a nationwide network of local programs that deliver nutritious meals to seniors who are homebound or have difficulty preparing meals themselves. Community based and non-profit MOW provides meals, social interaction and a safety check for the seniors.
MOW in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have 113 clients and 24 full and part-time drivers. The Christian Service Center is a “Hand Up” rather than a “Hand Out” agency. Clients are given immediate emergency aid as well as guidance on finding solutions to their problems. The CSC is a 100% volunteer agency funded by the churches of Pleasure Island, various community organizations, including the United Way of Baldwin County, and interested individuals. For more information please call the CSC at 251-968-5256 or visit cscgs.com.
