GSPD hopes to return recovered funeral urn to family

On April 17, Gulf Shores Police Dept. officers responded to a call in the 1600 block of West Beach Blvd for found property on the beach. During the investigation, it became clear that while fulfilling the last wishes of a loved one, an urn filled with ashes had been placed into the Gulf. “Whether by divine intervention, the gulf current, or perhaps the departed’s desire to stay close, the urn made its way back to shore,’’ GSPD posted.
Detectives and crime scene investigators respectfully opened the urn. Using an X-Ray machine, they successfully located an ID tag within the remains. Despite the tag being heavily weathered, we were able to gather valuable information that has led to the development of new leads. GSPD will provide further updates as soon as they are able. Anyone with info about the urn is asked to call 251-968-2431 or email gspdpio@gulfshoresal.gov.
