Gulf Shores pauses new development applications

Gulf Shores City Council recently approved an immediate 12‐month pause on accepting certain development applications as work begins on a new, citywide Comprehensive Plan. The temporary suspension applies to: Rezoning requests; New Planned Unit Developments; Land uses requiring Conditional Use Permits; Major subdivisions outside existing PUDs that require extending public streets or utilities.
Applications submitted and accepted before March 23 will continue moving forward.
“This is about thoughtful growth. We’re taking the time to gather community input, review land‐use and infrastructure needs, and produce a clear plan that reflects Gulf Shores’ vision,” said Mayor Robert Craft.
The moratorium will remain in place until the Comprehensive Plan is adopted or the 12‐month period ends, and Council may extend it up to two additional times (three months each), if needed.
More details about public engagement opportunities and project milestones will be announced. More info: gulfshoresal.gov.
The planning process will evaluate transportation, water and sewer services, public facilities, and land‐use policies.
