Improvements coming to Miflin Rd. at Beach Express

Improvements coming to Miflin Rd. at Beach Express

Foley and the Alabama Department of Transportation plan improvements at the intersection of Miflin Rd. and the Foley Beach Express. The work includes turn lanes, signals and lighting improvements that will improve safety and traffic flow on the busy Foley connectors, and ALDOT approved a $2-million grant to improve the intersection in southeast Foley.
The city transferred the Foley Beach Express to the state in 2025 after widening and resurfacing the road. The state designated the route Alabama 161.
“You can always do any intersection better, but this is going to be in line with all the other intersections on the Beach Express. The ambient lighting alone is going to improve safety. This is a real improvement for that major intersection,” said Mayor Ralph Hellmich.
ALDOT will be responsible for construction of the improvements and Foley will oversee the design.
“It’s going to take this intersection a long way from where it is now,” Councilman Charles Ebert III said. “It’s not going to get us 100% of what we want, but it’s going to take it a lot further to where it needs to be.”
