Junior Marksmanship Program starts June 15 in Orange Beach

The annual Junior Marksmanship Program starts June 15 in Orange Beach. The free program, conducted in conjunction with the State of Alabama, Department of Conservation, Wildlife & Freshwater Fisheries Division, is open to children ages 8 to 15. Three separate dates are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and are limited to 30 participants per event. Each event will be different and the participants will learn new skills at each one. Firearms and ammunition will be provided. Firearms safety is stressed throughout the entire event. The fee is $10 for each event.
• First Event: Sporting Clays at Range – Saturday, June 15, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Second Event: Rifles at Range – Saturday, June 22, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Third Event: Archery at Orange Beach Recreation Center – Wednesday, June 26, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
These events are subject to cancellation due to range availability. The temporary range is located off of Russian Road. From Foley Beach Express take University Lane between Columbia Southern University and Baldwin EMC. Take first left onto Roscoe Road and then first Right onto Russian Road. Follow the signs from there. Archery will be held at the Recreation Center at 4849 Wilson Blvd.
Eye protection, ear protection, snacks, and drinks will be provided. Participants must be picked up at 1 p.m. at the range on June 15 and June 22, and at 3:30 p.m. at the Rec Center on June 26.
