Kristin Pierre among 100 artists who will display at March 4-5 Ballyhoo Fest
Kristin Pierre, an oil artist and a resident of Gulf Shores, will be among the more than 100 artists who will be showing their original art at the Ballyhoo Festival of Fine Art and Culture. The festival is March 4-5 at the Gulf State Park, 20115 State Park Rd., Gulf Shores, nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and beautiful Lake Shelby.
In addition to the art, the Ballyhoo Festival features the only federally recognized Native American tribe in the State of Alabama, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. The Poarch Creek will be providing educational historical background of their tribe and will be performing original tribal dance in ceremonial regalia. Performances will be at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 4.
The Ballyhoo Festival has also incorporated Early Americana Appalachian music into their cultural exchange in the form of a Fiddle/Banjo Competition, sponsored in part by FloraBama and the Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival. The competition will be on Sunday, March 5 from Noon until 4 p.m. Starting off at the Ballyhoo Stage on Sunday, will be the Clubhouse Pirate Band, performing from 11 a.m. until Noon. At the end of the competition, visitors will want to gather to hear the nationally known group, Sugar Cane Jane, performing from 4-5 p.m.
Bands performing on Saturday at the Ballyhoo Festival will feature local popular band, Destiny Brown and the Destinations, kicking off the event from 9-11 a.m. The Krickets will take the stage from Noon until 2 p.m. This coastal band has gained fame worldwide with their unique sound of country and folk music. From 2-4 p.m., visitors will enjoy the amazing sound of The Skyline Kings, a great rockabilly group from Pensacola.
The Kid’s Korner will have some very unique new art projects for those creative little minds. They can also enjoy the newly created play park for children featuring a variety of fun features, inside the festival area.
Some of the wonderful food that will be featured includes Rouxle Rouge from New Liberia, LA with authentic cajun food, The Waffle Bar, The Kiwanis Club cooking hamburgers and hotdogs, Grandma’s Kettle Korn, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, OWA’s famous funnel cakes and many more great food options.
Parking will be at the Gulf State Pier, the newly created parking area adjacent to the Lodge (a walk across the street) and the Gulf State Pavilion. The Gulf State parking fee in these areas is $5. The Pier and the Pavilion will be fully staffed with shuttles for visitors to enjoy transport to and from the festival. Visitors can be dropped off at the festival entrance before parking. Handicapped parking will be inside the fest and is free. All parking will be directed by park rangers.
