Local Beta Sigma Phi Sorority named AL Chapter of Year

In the past year, the members of Alabama Theta Master Chapter of Gulf Shores volunteered to work for a worthwhile project called Testing 1,2,3. This local program provides free Memory Screening and Balance Testing to men and women interested in taking a quick test to measure their loss of function.
Each year at the Alabama Beta Sigma Phi State Convention, participating chapters submit their projects on various programs to be judged. What a pleasant surprise for Theta Master Chapter to be awarded the Best Service Program because of its support to Testing 1,2,3. The Beta Sigma Phi chapter was also awarded the Best Ways and Means Program. These two awards enabled the locals to also win overall Chapter of the Year For The State of Alabama.
Beta Sigma Phi is an International social sorority not affiliated with any college or university. Each year it chooses a special project to help with community functions by volunteering to assist in any way possible.
Beta Sigma Phi members first trained to assist in the program before the testing began. These tests are performed at various locations throughout Baldwin County during the year. The testing is offered in the fall for local residents and in the early winter for Snowbird visitors. The chapter helped test 376 people in memory screening and balanced tested 348 people from September 2018 through March 2019. The service our chapter provided to others has been meaningful and rewarding with many returning for a second screening. Th 146 volunteer hours prove the chapter’s efforts and education are working. Participants were so thankful for the tests being offered because it enabled them to improve their daily lives.
