Love For Lyla (Hopkins) benefit May 4 at Big Beach

The Love For Lyla benefit concert featuring four local bands, an auction and a raffle will be held from 2-8 p.m. on May 4 at Big Beach Brewery (300 E 24th Ave.) in Gulf Shores. The fundraiser will support local child Lyla Hopkins, as she continues on her road to recovery from brain cancer. All ages are welcome to come honor Lyla.
The event will feature four local bandsin support: 56 Low, Avenue Avinu, Funky Lampshades and Saucy Fuzz. This is an opportunity to come out and show some love for a local while listening to locally produced music.
Lyla is a sweet, vibrant 10 year old girl from Elberta who was recently diagnosed with diffuse midline glioma (DMG). Friends have started a gofundme page in hopes of helping relieve the financial burden and the stress that comes along with such a devastating diagnosis.
The tumor is inoperable due to the location and medication options are limited. Parents Elaina and Haden are posting updates on the Love For Layla Facebook page.
“People continue to ask about Lyla and her spirits and they’re always up,’’ wrote Elaina in a recent post. “We’ve had some rough days, some break downs, and some tough talks, but she continues to stay in an overall positive/happy mood. Laughs about everything, turns everything into a joke. When I say I’ve never met anyone like her, I mean it.
“We would like to say thank you so much to everyone who has sent Lyla a card, a gift, a donation, a positive vibe, etc! Stopping by the Post Office has become a favorite thing for her to do. She loves the pictures on postcards, reading the little messages, and seeing really cool stamps,’’ Elaina added. “This has been a bit of a journey for our family and we’re taking it day by day. We continue to appreciate the positive thoughts and prayers and hope that those continue!’’
