Magnolia Springs DeRoy wins Optimist Junior Championship

For the second year in a row Matthew DeRoy (above) of Magnolia Springs had the best score of 71 at the Alabama-Mississippi District of Optimist International Junior Golf Championship held at GlenLakes Golf Club. Although DeRoy had the best score in the Boys 12-13 Division, he opted not to compete in Miami. DeRoy was presented the Governor’s Award by District Governor Michael Hanshaw. Talented boys and girls competed in seven age divisions in order to qualify for the Optimist Junior Golf World Championship to be held in Miami. The top two finishers in each division earned invitations to compete.
