Multi-use trail, sidewalk and paving projects in O.B.
Orange Beach Special Projects Coordinator Marc Anderson reports that construction is ongoing on multi-use trails on the east and west sides of Canal Rd. and a new 10-foot path is being constructed between Wharf Pkwy. East at the Cumberland Farms gas station to Commercial Ave. Also, a 5-foot sidewalk is being constructed along Commercial Ave. from Captain’s Cove to Oak St.
At Bear Point, a 10-foot multi-use path is being constructed from Bay La Launch Ave.e to Wilson Blvd., connecting to an existing 10-foot path.
City Council approved a $3,679,727 contract for the Canal Road Multi-Use Trail Connectivity Projects in September. In December, the 5-foot sidewalk project was awarded to the low-bidding PL Russell LLC for $386,898.94, which is being covered by an ALDOT transportation grant.
All work is scheduled to be complete before the end of the year.
Resurfacing will start on many city streets in Bear Point this month, as part of the 2025 roadway resurfacing project. The total cost is $430,395 and covers 12 city streets. The work is expected to be complete before the Fourth of July holiday. Streets to be resurfaced include East Perdido Avenue, Wolfhead Avenue, Ornacore Avenue, Bay La Launch Avenue, Virginia Street, Georgia Street, Dowty Lane, Alabama Street, Allison /Bayland, Carney Avenue, Suarez Avenue.
