Murphy lands first ling at Gulf State Park Pier
Congratulations to Brian Murphy on landing this 37 inch, 17.41 pound Ling (Cobia) at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, April 27. It is the first legal ling landed on the Gulf State Park Pier this year. Photo by Ellis “Cajun’ Cattan. It was hooked with a large live shrimp.
Also referred to as lemon fish and cobia, ling migrate from south Florida along the Gulf Coast in the spring in nearshore waters. Ling are sometimes picky eaters. At other times, they are voracious feeders, and all you need to do is get the bait in their vicinity.
