O.B. Continuing Excellence Program offers free adult education classes

The City of Orange Beach Continuing Excellence Program (adult learning) offers a world of options to anyone with an interest in learning a new language, how to sew, a new dance, among other options. Anyone can choose to join in the fun, for free, but sign-up is required. “I feel like it’s a challenge having new students, but when you get a chance to get to know them, it becomes easy and fun,’’ said Uilma Meehan, one of the C.E. instructors currently teaching dance, Portuguese and Spanish classes as part of the adult offerings.
Originally from Brazil, she explained her learning to speak English as a second language gives her additional insight. “It took me four years to become fluent in English. But, after I married my husband and went to school, I learned it quickly. Learning English also gave me the opportunity to learn more about American culture,” she said. “Learning a different language or dance is good for the soul.”
