O.B. traffic across Intracoastal Waterway will detour through Gulf Shores May 10-12

Before the planned Memorial Weekend opening of the new Waterways Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway, the Alabama Dept. of Transportation is planning to close the Foley Beach Express Bridge for three days to reconfigure the intersection at Canal Road for the new north-only traffic flow. May 10-12 are the proposed dates as of April 24. All traffic headed to Orange Beach across the Intracoastal Waterway will have to go through Gulf Shores during those days while work proceeds near the south side of the bridge at Canal Road.
Officials said drivers coming from the north will be rerouted away from Orange Beach, north of County Road 8 through Gulf Shores as much as possible, and signs at Interstate 10 will help guide traffic before vehicles reach the beach route. ALDOT will provide maps and updates before the detour is put into place, and the new bridge will be transporting traffic by Memorial Day Weekend.
