Orange Beach’s Harriet Cauthen inducted into Mississippi Golf Hall of Fame

Harriet Cauthen, an Orange Beach resident for over 35 years, was recently inducted into the state of Mississippi’s Golf Hall of Fame. She was introduced to the audiences by Ken Lindsay, former head of the PGA of America.
Born in Jackson, Harriet began her amateur career at Clarksdale High School, where she led her team to three state championship medalist honors in the early 1950s.
She won the first of her four Mississippi Women’s Amateur title in 1962. and was named the Mississippi Women’s Player of the Year by the Clarion-Ledger in 1982.
At the national level, Cauthen made four USGA championship fields over three age divisions.
In 2013, she was the co-champion of the super senior division at the Women’s Southern Golf Association Championship played at Gulf Shores Golf Club, her home course at the time.
She served as a board member for the Southern Golf Assn and held prestigious positions at her respective clubs.
With nearly 100 team and individual wins across six decades and countless lives touched, her influence and advocacy for women’s golf, not only in Mississippi but across the South led to her induction into both the Coahoma County Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
