Pedestrian crossing is now open at Hwy. 59 & 12th Ave.

The City of Gulf Shores has completed work on a designated pedestrian crossing & traffic light on Hwy. 59 at 12th Ave., bridging the gap between the Hwy. 59 crossings at Fort Morgan Rd. and Waterville. The pedestrian crossing signals include “count-down” timers and push-buttons. This new addition bridges the gap between crossings, making it easier to cross safely.
Sidewalk open on East 1st St.
Additionally, the city has completed the sidewalk project and roadway improvements on East 1st St. in front of Dolphin Villas and Marbella Apartments. Construction began in 2025.
The project included improving drainage, repaving East 1st St., adding a curbs and gutters and building a 7-foot-wide sidewalk to connect residents to neighborhood shops, restaurants, and churches.
Most importantly, the street is now safer for children walking to and from school.
The City matched $800,000 in ALDOT Transportation Act funding with $200,000 from its general fund.
