Prescribed burn scheduled north of Orange Beach
Prescribed burn scheduled north of Orange Beach
A prescribed burn is scheduled to be conducted by the Alabama Forestry Commission in early to mid February on a 570-acre Forever Wild site north of Wolf Bay.
The burn will take place during a prevailing north wind so some smoke and/or smell should be expected in Orange Beach. The burn may take one day or it could take several. The purpose of this prescribed burn is to improve forest and wildlife habitat, but also to greatly reduce the probability of future wildfires in a heavily populated area by reducing the amount of vegetative fuels. The smoke may become a temporary inconvenience for some of the surrounding area.
The Forestry Commission asks for everyone to please be patient as the property has been placed under the Forever Wild Land Trust and will never be developed. Therefore, it is vital to maintain the area for our native plants and wildlife.
Prescribed fire is an important forest management tool that allows for habitat restoration with no long term negative impacts to our delicate ecosystem.
