SEC Women’s Soccer Championship starts Oct. 31 in O.B.

Continuing a decade long relationship with the Southeastern Conference, the city of Orange Beach and the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission will again host the SEC Women’s Soccer Championship Oct. 31-Nov. 6 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.
All first round, quarterfinal and semifinal matches will air live on the SEC Network. The championship match will air live on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. on ESPNU. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students and children for each game.
South Carolina is the prohibitive favorite to win the champions’ trophy after capturing the SEC regular-season title. Ranked no. 3 in the country, the Gamecocks (16-0-1, 10-0-0 SEC) pushed their school-record winning streak to 16 matches with a win last weekend vs. Tennessee. Florida, ranked 12th, Auburn, ranked 14th, and Arkansas, ranked 14th nationally, will also be in the running. Missouri, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Alabama should be the other schools competing in the 10 team tourney.
Youth rec and club teams can get in on the action during the Nov. 5-6 Alabama Soccer Festival for U-6 to U-12 teams. Teams will compete in soccer games and participate in other activities such as a skills competition and a block party. Coaches will have the opportunity to receive a coaching certificates and may take part in a coaches’ social. All players will be given tickets to the SEC Championship.
