The Launch at CR 6 now open on lower Bon Secour River

The Launch at CR6, a highly anticipated boat ramp on County Rd. 6 with direct access to the lower Bon Secour River, is now open. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the launch, which was completed two weeks ahead of schedule, was held on April 25.
The $4,820,000 GOMESA funded launch sits on 15 acres located at 5587 County Rd. 6 in Gulf Shores, just west of the Gulf Shores Sports Complex on Oak Rd. West. It includes two boat ramps, a kayak launch, picnic gazebos, restroom facilities, a walking trail, parking for 69 trucks with trailers and 26 passenger vehicles, a fishing pier and a staging pier.
The project is part of Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funding originally created in 2006 as a revenue-sharing model for oil-and gas-producing gulf states. The Baldwin County Commission secured the prime waterfront property for $2 million to provide citizens increased recreational opportunities and access to waterways in January of 2021. The park includes preserved coastal wetlands and many live oaks that will provide shade and other benefits to the overall ecosystem.
Governor Ivey committed the State of Alabama to providing $4.82 million in State GOMESA funding to help bring this long-awaited project to fruition while the Baldwin County Commission committed $1.5 million dollars in County GOMESA funding, and an additional $2.6 million of local County funds to support the project. The property has over 900 feet of water frontage and an 8 ft wide pedestrian trail around the entire park.
