Thirteen years after Ivan, music returns to Big Lagoon State Park
Grayson Capps kicks off amphitheatre concert series on June 3

By Tina Morrison
Big Lagoon State Park, located in the Southwestern corner of Escambia County, Florida was purchased from the U.S. Corp of Engineers in the late 1970s. The original amphitheatre was completely destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and had to be demolished in 2005. It was reopened in 2010, and this year it will be home to the Summer Concert Series. On the first Saturday evening of the month in June, July and August, renowned Folk / Americana bands Grayson Capps, Sugarcane Jane and Willie Sugarcapps will perform their original music live in the beautiful waterside amphitheatre. Sunshine State Concessions, the park’s official concessionaire currently offers food concessions, recreational equipment rentals and a camp store at West Beach inside Big Lagoon State Park and is adding event management services, per the park’s request.
We invite locals and visitors to join us for the Summer Concert Series. On Saturday, June 3rd, Grayson Capps will kick off the series, followed by husband and wife duo Sugarcane Jane on Saturday, July 1st. Headlining the series on August 5th will be the dynamic Will Kimbrough, Anthony Crawford & Savana Lee, Grayson Capps, and Corky Hughes, known collectively as Willie Sugarcapps ~ 2013 Independent Music Award winners for Best Americana Album. “This band may be turning out the best harmonies since the vintage days of Crosby, Stills and Nash.” — Elmore Magazine. Existing fans will love seeing them in this intimate venue and newcomers to their music will become loyal followers.
