Toll Authority passes statewide, fails in Baldwin County

Toll Authority passes statewide, fails in Baldwin County
Foley Beach Express extension to I-65 on hold indefinitely

With a record number of its citizens casting ballots, Alabama voters approved all 14 amendments on statewide ballots, but even while the statewide amendment allowing cities to create toll authorities was approved, Baldwin County Amendment 3, which was brought to a vote specifically to fund the 23-mile Foley Beach Express extension from I-10 to I-65, failed. And that means the statewide amendment can not be ratified locally.
The toll authority could also have been used as an option for a third bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway or Wolf Bay to Pleasure Island.
If the amendment passe, work on the 22 mile extension was expected to commence in 2017, as environmental and right-of-way permits are already in place. A revised amendment is epected to show up on the ballot in 2018.
